What are aluminum cans?
Aluminum cans are in general, the types of containers soda and beer comes in.  Aluminum is a very energy intensive product and is hard on the environment.  It takes massive amounts of energy to extract the material from the bauxite ore that is strip mined in the Caribbean.  If at all possible, avoid purchasing aluminum cans.    If a magnet sticks to the can, it is tinned steel and not aluminum.  Aluminum cans include:

  • Pop cans
  • Juice
  • Pie pans
  • Beer cans
  • Energy drinks
  • Clean foil
  • Teas
  • Some canned food

How do I recycle aluminum cans?
Aluminum is easy to recycle.  If possible, give it a quick rinse to reduce insect vectors.

Where do I recycle my aluminum cans?
Most aluminum cans carry a "deposit" value of $0.05 each if returned to the store of purchase.  Otherwise, a
luminum cans are accepted all over the community of Douglas County.
